How to deal with the variety of business parameters

Industrial Engineering

Read this article later:

A business, regardless of whether it's a small or a big one, is a complex system of many different parameters and influence factors.
People, cash flow, knowledge, information, equipment, energy, materials,... all have an influence on the performance level of your team/business. And you, as a leader, must be able to manage (or at least oversee) it all.
With that degree of complexity, it's not a surprise that you -just as many other leaders- sometimes lose the overview and miss an element.

And there's nothing wrong with that, we're humans, and humans make mistakes and drop stitches!
But, there's a solution for that!

Read along, and discover how you can handle this complexity.

Did you know that there is a specific discipline that focusses on the complexity of running a business?
It's called 'Industrial Engineering'.

Industrial Engineering is concerned with the development, improvement, and implementation of integrated systems of people, money, knowledge, information, equipment, energy, materials, analysis and synthesis, as well as the mathematical, physical and social sciences together with the principles and methods of engineering design to specify, predict, and evaluate the results to be obtained from such systems or processes.

That is the official definition of 'Industrial Engineering', so you could say that it focusses on creating the most optimal business and/or team.
I suppose that's also your goal as an 'Ambitious Leader'.

Combine that with the fact that leadership is a form of top-sport. You always have to be ready, you always have to perform in the best possible way, and you put in a lot of effort to achieve it. So you should also look -just like a top-sporter- for the best possible support!

So having an Industrial Engineer by your side to keep the overview of all the business parameters is probably a good idea.
And yes, I am officially educated and certified as an Industrial Engineer ;-)

To create the most optimal business or team, we should align all the elements that are at play: your own leadership and the context in which your leadership can flourish.

So how do you get started with this?
Not everybody needs to focus on all these steps. Some of you are already pretty strong in one or more elements, others need to focus more on all of them.
It's like a personal assessment you can do for yourself to find out which of these 5 elements require some extra attention.

So ask yourself how able you are to build up a long term vision, how clear you can get that vision, how easily you can start implementing that vision, how you can incorporate people into your vision, and how high your energy level is.

If you discover one or more elements that require some extra attention or that are not that easy for you to deal with, then don't hesitate to book a free 30 minutes (re-)connect session with me so we can have a look on what you might need most right now.
And then I will be more than willing to make you dream bigger then you've ever dreamed, and help you realise it with smaller steps you've ever taken!
